A Turbo Yeast is designed to produce alcohol very quickly, sometimes a very high alcohol and always very clean alcohol, free from off-flavours.
You typically add a sachet of Turbo Yeast to a solution of sugar in water and it will produce 13-20% alcohol in 1-5 days.
The most extreme in speed is the Alcotec 24, producing 13% alchol in as little as 24 hours. On the other extreme, there is the Alcotec 8 producing 20% in 5 days.
Before the world of turboyeast, home distillers had only bakers yeast to do the job. It works - but slowly and with a lot of off-flavours produced. It was quite common (and no doubt still is in some markets) to use all sorts of tricks to speed things up - adding tomato puree, rice corns, yeast nutrients of different types etc.
